Start Speaking Viking — Live This Wednesday, on My Birthday

A live class for beginners, or anyone coming back to the Icelandic language after a break.

I'm Óskar Bragi, native Icelandic teacher and I'm spending my birthday doing my favorite thing: helping people say their first real words of Icelandic.

Some of my favorite people in the world are the ones who love Iceland and its language. I wanted to do something special on my birthday, and I’m focusing my attention on you out there - who want to start learning but don’t know where to start

Maybe you've wanted to speak Icelandic for a long time. Maybe you started once and drifted off into the wilderness. And there's this feeling you have deep inside  that you could do this. You just happen to be stuck.

And what’s missing is not what most people think. My job on Wednesday is to demystify it: take the parts that look complicated and make them simple, so it finally feels doable. Maybe even more fun and exciting than you could ever imagine.

You'll be ready to say three things native speakers use every single day:

Heyrðu — hey / listen / hold on a second. You'll hear it constantly in Reykjavík. Jæja — a whole sentence in one word. It's how Icelanders wrap up one thing and start the next. Þetta reddast — it'll all work out. Two words that basically explain the whole country.

I will unpack the sound and the meaning for you.

This isn't a lecture. We'll actually talk, and we'll actually practice.

  • Take the complicated parts and make them simpler

  • Leave with clear, practical next steps for your Icelandic learning journey

Format: 50 minutes of a live Icelandic  lesson, then  Q&A — bring your questions and we'll hang out.
